"From the very first that I met him when he was 9, I knew Travis was a special kid and athlete. His understanding of the game of soccer, his approach to each practice and game, and his commitment to his teammates was something amazing; and something that I had not seen before nor since. He was a champion and true competitor and a kid that truly loved every second of his sports experiences. Surrey United SC celebrated all of his successes in his teenage years with Whitecaps FC and were proud to see him return to SUSC at U17. In the short period that he returned to the club before his tragic passing Travis inspired his 2000 age-group teammates and many of the young players that emulated him in the club. He also set a standard of being a great teammate and competitor that will influence SUSC teams and players positively for years to come.

About Travis Selje

"Work hard, play hard." This was Travis’ motto as he was growing into a teenager with his dad’s loving but firm expectation of “Do what you have to do, then do what you want to do”.

Travis started playing soccer with Surrey United’s mini program at the age of 5. In a very short time it became obvious that he loved soccer. Even at this young age Travis played hard and loved to compete.
